Lose None - “Restless Energy”

best unreleased album of 2009 “Ravaged Lands” by Lose None. If you can listen to this song all the way through without your mind being blown you are on a completely different level. Heaviest shit to come out of the bay.

The reason most of those are controlled by the government is because creating a competitive market in them would only complicate the supply of power/water/etc. and make the system less efficient. This does NOT mean that the government is amazing at everything. It’s called efficient economics. The government allows organizations and companies to create monopolies to more efficiently provide services to the population. Imagine if we have 5 companies to choose from for our power. It’d be chaotic and there would be power lines running everywhere. Healthcare, though, is not the type of industry that needs to be government run or monopolized to run efficiently. It’s an industry that needs competition to provide the best healthcare possible. If there is only one company, or the government runs it, the quality of the industry plummets, doctors get paid less, and people end up paying the same or more for healthcare that doesn’t even compare to a privatized system. Not to mention the fact that it allows people who do not pay taxes to take advantage of the system and get the same quality healthcare as someone who pays 30% of their income in taxes. Socialist systems allow handouts and give people the opportunity to take advantage of them. They coerce people into paying for some services they don’t necessarily need (such as welfare) so other people that don’t pay for them can use them. That’s why capitalism is the most efficient and best system people have created so far. It allows competition and product/service advancement to allow people to make a profit. Then, they have the opportunity to use that profit for charity. Capitalism enables charity. It shouldn’t be forced like a socialist system does.

Anyway, the other industries, such as power, water, etc., are government-run or monopolized because it creates an efficient system and it obviously works. Healthcare quality could eventually plummet because of the new bill. Take a look at some economics courses before you start calling people dumb for thinking privatization is a good thing.

get um Danny.

Well first off, the new bill doesn’t de-privatize any part of the healthcare industry, it changes what insurance companies can ask you when you are applying for coverage and it doesn’t allow you to get dropped if you do get sick, which is ridiculous if you think about it anyway, that would be like your life insurance dropping you because you died, why even have it in the first place?

I guess I really didn’t explain my feelings on the topic very well here, I really just posted a link and told people to perform an act of violence on themselves if they didn’t agree, so here goes. Removing the health care debate from the subject, usually when I hear or read things talking about deregulation or privatization, it is coming from people (yourself included) who buy far too much into the myth of Capitalism. That is basically the harder you work in life=the higher your socioeconomic status will become. We need to think that by flipping the shit of the burgers at a McDonald’s we can become Fortune 500 CEOs. Why? Because otherwise the entire system falls apart. There would be no motivation to work hard. That’s why we love hearing rags to riches stories, it’s propaganda that we are all willing to buy into because it reaffirms beliefs that we need to have in order to keep trudging along every single day.

Do you know why this is a myth and your life is not a Will Smith movie? Inheritance. We are born into a class depending on how much money our parents make, and that class is likely the one we will remain in for the rest of our lives. If Capitalism really worked so well Paris Hilton would be homeless. Capitalism as a system is a failure because:

It is supposed to create competition and allow people to rise in status depending on their own abilities, and in a pure Capitalist system neither of these things occur, monopolies form and the difference between a small upper class and a large proletariat widens.

So I guess my point here, and really what I think the person on 4chan was trying to get at is this: we don’t live in a country that has anything resembling pure Capitalism. AND, it’s a damn good thing we don’t, so stop acting like the sky is falling every time there is talk of putting regulations on industries.

I also have to say that I have absolutely zero sympathy for people that have to pay more in taxes when it provides social programs that help the less fortunate. If you make more, pay more, maybe read the new testament a little bit, and stop being so fucking selfish because if the tables were turned and you were living impoverished you’d probably feel a little bit differently.

yessss tumblr warzzz. EXTRA SERVED.

Yeaaa!!! Get ‘em Cliffy!!!

ok here’s my 2 cents. YOU’RE ALLL WRONG. none of you are capable of constructing an objective opinion on this (including myself). there has never been a perfect form of government and there never will be. there are obviously flaws in our capitalist society, and i think others have set an example of how flawed socialism/communism can be. when it comes down to it people go with their self interests, myself included. free health care sounds awesome to me because i am entering my mid twenties and can’t really afford it for myself. am i saying that this is the best system for everyone? no. but don’t kid yourself and think that your opinions aren’t formed the same way. everyone looks out for number 1 first. our political opinions have been shaped by the people we surround ourselves with and the people who raised us. EVERYONE IS A HYPOCRITE. arguing on tumblr isn’t helping anything and its a witttle bit annoying. all this being said ANARCHY IN THE BAY.

This can all be settled peacefully by admitting a few things. 1. Cliff is a socialist (closet communist, baby killer) because hes a hipster 2. Danny is a capitalist (genocidal maniac/war lord) because he goes to christian school 3. Matt and i are anarchists (really just ignorant on most topics) because we live in Berkeley.

that being said here are some really really good resources on both sides. HEALTH CARE INFO

Her Not To Reason Why

clifferded:

Not To Reason Why Her

Not To Reason Why is a Post Rock from Petaluma. I initially heard them at the V. St. house, I was trying to leave because I was super tired and Jeff was shaking his head at me for not staying. I was upstairs when they started playing, and I was so blown away by the drumming that I practically power walked down to the basement. They kind of sound like a mix between Do Make Say Think and Sigur Ros, or like the new 65daysofstatic. Really, really amazing band, I love seeing musicians who are this technically accomplished and still can play extremely emotionally. And the drummer fucking kills it.

healthcare healtcare healthcare blah blah blah. Why are so many students so concerned with this, as opposed to the fact that somehow education has turned into an overpriced book list and powerpoint lectures… Ive seen more educated bums with library cards than intelligent college graduates recently. I hope you all feel $40,000 smarter than you were four years ago.

Just got finished watching Amelie for the first time. I thought it was quite good. Several of the plot points seemed directly borrowed from Kar-Wai Wong’s Chungking Express, which came out 6 years prior. I would definitely say if you are a fan of Amelie go rent Chungking Express, its even better in my opinion.
